What is Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking has become a very popular hobby, over the last decade or so, as a means to preserve memories with a unique and creative method. Scrapbooking is an art form in and of itself, and like any other artistic endeavor it takes time and practice to achieve a desired outcome.
Scrapbooks are a hodgepodge of photographs, newspaper and magazine clippings, and trinkets and mementos placed together. Unlike the normal photo album, a scrapbook is meant to invoke the feeling and mood that was associated with the collection. Think about it, if a photo can say a thousand words then how many words can be told with just one page of a scrapbook. And that is the ultimate goal of scrapbooking, to say as much as possible without saying a word. The idea is allow the viewer to experience as much as they can from what they are viewing and allow them to vicariously be transported to that moment in time.
Essential Scrappbooking Supplies
Scrapbook Albums
In order to make great scrapbooks, one needs an assortment of scrapbooking supplies. So, in the remainder of this article I will discuss some scrapbooking supplies that should be in every scrapbooking kit.
The first accessory on the list should be some albums made specifically for scrapbooks. But before you choose an album or scrapbook you will want to decide on the topic or theme for your project. Is it going to be about a holiday or a specific event such as a wedding or a birthday, or is it going to represent a life situation such as graduating high school or college, or a pregnancy. Once you decide on a theme then it makes it easier to decide on a design. Scrapbook albums have many different covers such as sewn fabrics, like cloth, suede, or leather, or they can be plastic, metal or glass. Choose your theme then make a selection for your album style.
Scrapbooking Adhesivs
Next up for your scrapbooking kit is an assortment of adhesives. A can of Tacky Sprat, some glue sticks, tape and photo corners should be plenty to get you started. But don’t forget to get some adhesive remover too because working with glues and adhesives can get pretty sticky and gum up your hands and fingers and the area around where you are working. Just remember that when selecting your adhesives to select acid-free brands so that your photos and clippings will be preserved.
