Sand Sculptures

Have you ever been to the beach and witnessed a sand sculpture competition?  If you have, I’m sure you were awed into amazement at the talent behind some of those sculptors.  Some of the sculptors were working solo and others with a partner or in teams but that does not lessen the amount of skill and hard work that goes into creating those masterpieces of sand and water.

Amazed at the talent

That’s right, just sand and water make up some of the most creative and beautiful pieces of artwork.  And by late that evening or early the next morning, those sculptures will wash away with the wind or the tide and the only place they will remain is in our memories and if we were lucky on our digital cameras.

All that shoveling and tamping of the sand,  the seemingly endless buckets of water, the careful removal of forms, and the delicate carving and sculpting will soon be lost but never forgotten.  But do you ever wonder where all that talent and skill came from in the first place?  How does one become so gifted with sand?

Introducing Moon Sand

Well, the talent often shows itself as a child.  Children often have wonderful imaginations and given the tools and opportunities they will gleefully display that talent.  And now, there is a fairly new product on the market that was a hit last Christmas and will certainly be on the tops of many wish lists this upcoming Christmas and years to come.  It’s called Moon Sand.

Moon Sand is just sand with water and an additional polymer that gives it similar qualities as Play Doh though Moon Sand is not going to ruin the carpet or the furniture.  With some of the kits they come in, you can build great sand castles, or farms with animals.  You can also create a sculpture, bake it in a regular oven, and it will harden up so your child can give you a keepsake.

If you can think it, you can probably create it with Moon Sand just like with the sand sculptures discussed above but with one distinct exception.  When you are finished creating and playing with the Moon Sand, you can crumble it back up and put it away nicely in the buckets and containers it came in.

Moon Sand is non- toxic, it is gluten free and allergy free.  It comes in 10 different colors and also Glitter Sand.  There is an assortment of starter kits as well as replacement packs in case you want to add certain colors to your child’s collection.  Some of the best deals I have seen on Moon Sand are provided by Amazon.com .  I’ve listed some of the best deals I have found below.  Buy it now and be ready this Christmas.

What age group is this for- does it work with older kids? Sounds very cool.

Hi Storyteresus, thanks for visiting. The manufacturer recomends ages 4 and up. The kits are geared towards kids 4-8 because of the simple molds. I can tell you, I'm 40 and I have fun with the stuff. It feels like wet sand but with no real mess, and the little mess it does make is easy to clean up... Yes, it is cool stuff.
